The Arts Council of Kanawha Valley (ACKV) was formed in the fall of 2009 from the valley’s Cultural Plan to support, promote, and advocate for artists and arts agencies in WV from Charleston, Huntington toBeckley and everywhere in between. The ACKV’s goal is to enhance the quality of life in the KanawhaValley through the arts.
We focus on four main strategies:
- Support: Direct support (mini-grants) and indirect support (advocacy)
- Access: To current & new audiences, via online calendar and community initiatives
- Collaboration: web-based resources and networking events
- Education: provide business building skills
A need & an opportunity
Despite the many benefits to the quality of life of the Kanawha Valley brought about the local art scene and our creative heritage; artists and creative professionals find themselves faced with the inability to meet critical needs. Including access to audiences or markets, funding, philanthropists, decision makers, even to one another and the broader creative community.
The Arts Council of Kanawha Valley sees these needs as opportunities—opportunities to better serve the artists and professionals who are so greatly responsible for the high quality of life in this area. We can do this by building off of our strengths—the welcoming embrace from the community, a network of community partnerships and dynamic programs available to the valley’s creative community.
By matching these strengths and opportunities, we believe we can be a leader in the effort to build a more vibrant lifestyle and sustainable creative economy in the Kanawha Valley.
